Review for Coyote Ugly by Lynn

Directed by Barret Cooper

Sept 11, 17

"Where Coyote Ugly starts to hit its stride is in watching how Scarlet develops. If the play has a heart it is hers, and there are enticing suggestions of deeper, more evocative notes brought out in Katherine Martin's daring, go-for-broke performance. It is through Scarlet that many of the play's biggest revelations are communicated, and Ms. Martin prowls the stage with a magnetic force that pulls you right along with her, even when she is committing acts of unrepentant cruelty. She finds the comedy largely through building character, and is the most successful among the cast at achieving that crucial balance. In the final moments, the play discovers a poetic and timeless quality through Scarlet that somewhat redeems the degradation." By, Kieth Waits

Projects in Progress

I am co-creating along with Zach Bramel and Deva North, "Thermodynamic Neighborhood." It is in its developmental and workshop phase.

“Thermodynamic Neighborhood” is a 50-minute puppet performance composed of four inter-related vignettes exploring ideas and concepts contained in the four corresponding Laws of Thermodynamics. Each vignette resolves a situational or philosophical conflict between imaginative characters using puppetry, mask, empathy, non-verbal communication, and live musical accompaniment."

KATHERINE MARTIN has appeared in  numerous Theatre shows- some favorites include, Qualities of Starlight (Theatre 502) in Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse as Lilly  (StageOne), in Twelfth Night as Viola and Titus Andronicus as Lavinia (Kentucky Shakespeare), Times Stands Still and Clybourne Park (The Liminal Playhouse), as Yitzhak in Hedwig and The Angry Inch (Pandora Productions) and Scarlet in Coyote Ugly (Alley Theater), Discomfort Zones by Allie Keel, part of their Hadley showcase at Actors Theatre. She also appeared in Mary Shelley Electric Companies Creature: A puppet Frankenstein adaptation and is a co-creator with them for their Thermo Shows.
